Nearly hundred students, between nine and 19 years, are set to make the city proud. City-based Purple People Lab (PPL) production house, which works with school and college students to make short films, has been invited to showcase its work at the Miami Film Festival -- Grandindiewise Convention. The films will premiere at Miami between August 24 and 27.

This is the second chapter of the convention. According to PPL members, nearly 20 of their short films qualified for nominations, but the seven best were selected for screening.  While one of these films, The Photograph, is based on a real-life incident in Syria, another short, One Not All, is on the theme of child abuse.

Ananya Iyer, a 14-year-old cinematographer with PPL who worked on One Not All, said, "I am so excited that our films would be screen on an international platform. But due to my exam schedule, I won't be able to travel to Miami." Iyer ventured into filmmaking at the age of 11.

Echoing similar sentiments, Yashas Chattree, 9, said, "I always wanted to venture into filmmaking. You don't need to be a certain age to start making films."

Speaking to mid-day, founder and CEO of PPL Shweta Parakh said, "It's a proud moment for us. This is a huge opportunity for the students. Most of them run their own YouTube channels or write scripts."
