Congress VP Rahul Gandhi didn’t leave much of an impression on the management students at Vile Parle’s Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS). While many students were unable to pose their questions to Gandhi, who met them between 10 am and 12 pm on Saturday, those who did manage were not satisfied with his answers. Many expressed how Gandhi went on speaking about different points without answering their questions.

Dressed casually in a jeans and a grey T-shirt, Gandhi had to field questions on a range of issues: comparisons between India and China, monsoon deficit and agricultural output, status of start-ups in India, roadblock for Goods and Service Tax Bill (GST), the censorship debate, security concerns and India’s low ranking in universities across world.
A second-year student of the MBA Course, said, “Sure there was a question-answer round. But the entire session seemed just another speech by a politician. Several high profile corporate officials who come here, make the sessions much more interactive.”

Mukti Maloo, also a second-year MBA, asked a question about monsoon deficit and its effects on agriculture. She was visibly confused with Gandhi’s answer. His response started with how our agriculture systems have changed from time to time and how the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, which the Congress brought in, led to different changes. “He just went on about plus points of the NREGA without specifically entering the issue,” expressed Mukti.
Another second-year student, Manan Chandarana was equally confused when Gandhi answered his question on the roadblock for GST. “He did manage to present a case for the opposition. But when there is clarity over points of disagreement; why is the Congress taking time to discuss it? Are they opposing it just because BJP was opposing it before? Then what’s the difference?” said Manan.
