With one week to her wedding, the woman’s family is desperately searching for the lehenga that she forgot on a Churchgate-bound train, only to be told that another woman had walked off with it
With less than a fortnight to go before her wedding, Miti Bora was more than a little preoccupied as she took a train to go get her bridal lehenga stitched. But in her distraction, she forgot the very lehenga on the train as she got down at Marine Lines to head to the tailor. By the time she tracked the train down at Churchgate station, another woman had already taken the lehenga away.

The incident took place on January 30, with very few days to go before the Dahisar resident’s February 13 wedding. On the day of the incident, Miti boarded a train to Marine Lines, to give her tailor the material for her bridal lehenga. But, it was only when the train left after she alighted at Marine Lines, that she realised she’d forgotten the material. She immediately took another train to Churchgate, tracked down the first train and combed the women’s coach, to no avail.
She questioned a few people present there and they told her they had seen a woman carrying the lehenga off the train. Miti went to the Churchgate railway police station and filed a complaint. The GRP officials said they have registered a missing report for the lehenga and provided the family with CCTV footage from the station that shows an unidentified woman carrying the lehenga.
Speaking to mid-day, Miti’s brother Dr Deep Bora said, “We have circulated the CCTV footage among several people so we can trace the woman with the lehenga. When we enquired with other people near the station, they said that they have seen the lady at Churchgate many times. We just want that lehenga; it costs around R40,000. We will have no issues with that lady if she returns it. Currently, we are trying to arrange for another lehenga.”
