OLIO, Mumbai's only inter-collegiate drama competition will happen at St Andrew's Auditorium, Bandra on September 6, 2013. OLIO literally means, 'A programme with skits, musical interludes and a backdrop'

OLIO promises to be 'A Royal Affair' for all

Since its inception in 2001, OLIO has seen greater participation from colleges, including the likes of Hinduja’s, KC College, SIES, St. Xaviers, Wilson’s, Jai Hind College, Don Bosco’s Engineering College, National College, MMK, Tolani College, Pravin Gandhi Law College, Lala Lajpatrai College and many more. It is a great platform for youngsters to hone their acting skills. Actors Anand Tiwari (Go Goa Gone) and Freida Pinto took home the Best Actor awards on this stage many years ago.

Some of our past judges have been Cyrus Broacha, Ken Ghosh, Genelia Deshmukh, Perizaad Zorabian, Ash Chandler, Dolly Thakore, Raell Padamsee, Kitu Gidwani, Sharon Prabhakar, Ashvin Gidwani and a host of other actors, directors and theatre personalities.

Professor Desiree Gonsalves has been heading the fest since 12 years. TYBCom student Aakash Saluja heads the organising committee along with SYBA student Samantha Fernandes. The fest provides a platform for students to showcase their talents be it in acting, writing, fillers, directing or being a part of the marketing, PR, technical, or lighting scenario.

This provides one with an all-round practical educational experience. It also helps first-time actors overcome their stage fright. The elimination round on August 22, 2013 saw the final four teams being selected for the mega show. Each team will put on show an original 25-minute One Act play, and the four plays will be interspersed by rib-tickling fillers.

Last year, the theme of OLIO was ‘Twisted Tales’. This year, it is ‘A Royal Affair’. The final four colleges selected are KC College, Wilson College, Pravin Gandhi Law College and the hosts, St Andrews College. A workshop has been organised to prepare them for the finals.

The event is sponsored by AOL Coolage, co-sponsored by Whistling Woods and others, who are giving away awards for Best Play, Director, Actors, Sound and Lighting winners. There are prizes in store for the audience too. If you want ‘A Royal Affair’, OLIO is for you! u00a0 u00a0
