Yesterday, Parineeti Chopra put out a statement on social media to clear the air about lying at at a recent event. Speaking at a self-defence initiative for women helmed by Akshay Kumar, the actress had discussed her childhood and said that her parents did not have the money to send her for martial arts training.

She also claimed she did not have money to go to school by bus or cab and used to depend on her bicycle.

She mentioned that she faced a lot of hardships since boys used to eve-tease her during that phase. Parineeti's speech drew flak from her classmates, who alleged that Parineeti comes from a well-to-do family and that they owned two cars when she was younger. Parineeti's school friends have been posting messages on Facebook to call her out for 'lying'.

"Parineeti Chopra... shame... coming from a privileged background and lying through the teeth in front of the camera. I guess this is what being a celebrity means (sic)," read a post. Pari has now responded saying the essence of her speech was completely lost and taken out of context.
