Pune Crime: Activist murdered by political opponents

A 32-year-old activist of Shiv Sena was allegedly murdered by a group of political opponents in Kalepadal area
of Hadapsar.

The deceased, Sachin Shahaji Shelar, was on his way home at Kale-Borate Nagar on his motorbike when around nine people attacked him with sharp weapons on Saturday night.

Police have identified the suspects as Anil Somvanshi, Amit Phalle, Anna Rakh, Dhananjay Wankhede and Pinkya Butte-Patil and four others. Shelar’s friend, Manoj Kadam, who registered the complaint at Hadapsar police station, was with the victim when the incident happened.

“The murder was a fallout between Shelar and the suspects. He was a local activist who became popular after he raised a few issues in the area. Shelar also had good relations with his political opponents and the accused were allegedly jealous of him.

They decided to kill the man and also tried to attack Kadam,” said Police Inspector, SD Barge from Hadapsar police station.

Shelar received severe injuries on his head and body. He was rushed to the nearby hospital where, due to heavy bleeding, he succumbed to his injuries.
