Almost a month after a man was found lying in a pool of blood with his throat slit, at Kharori, Fatehgarh Sahib district of Punjab, the Sahar police detained the accused in the case from the immigration counter of the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, on Saturday night. Soon after the incident, the Sirhind police had issued a lookout circular against the accused, identified as Yadvinder Singh, when the victim in his statement said that his brother allegedly tried to kill him.

Singh was detained after he reached the immigration counter around 6pm. Originally from Kharori in Punjab, he has been living in the Gulf for the past several years. On Saturday, he was scheduled to travel to Riyadh from Mumbai, but while scanning his records at the immigration counter, the officials got to know that he was wanted in an attempt-to-murder case. An officer from Sahar police station said, "A case had been registered against him under sections 307, 323, 394, 328 and 120B of IPC."

When contacted, an official from Sirhind police station said, "While investigating the matter we learned that Singh came to India in June and then went to meet his brother at his house in Kharori. He was in touch with his brother through WhatsApp and video calls."

In his statement to the police, the victim had said that his brother didn't tell him about his visit, as he wanted to give him a surprise. While at the victim's house, Singh spiked his brother's drink and then slit his throat with a sharp-edged weapon. Then he left the state without informing anyone. However, the Sahar cops said that prima facie it looks like a case of property dispute, but the real reason would be clear only after Singh's interrogation.

Speaking to mid-day, Pradeep Singh, SHO of Sirhind police station, said, "Our team has started the legal process to take over his custody from the Mumbai police and arrest him in the matter."
