There have been rumours that Rekha and Sanjay Dutt had secretly entered the bond of holy matrimony, as a result of which the actress applies vermillion in his name. Many of these reports have cited, writer Yasser Usman's book 'Rekha - The Untold Story' as the source behind these reports.

But, Yasser Usman has rubbished these reports as nothing but fantasy. He told Hindustan Times, "This is wrong. Nothing of this sort has been mentioned in my book. People don’t read properly."
Usman further stated that, Rekha and Sanjay Dutt were working together on a film, probably 'Zameen Aasmaan' (1984), when rumours of their alleged marriage started gaining grounds. This led Sanjay Dutt to officially deny them during an interview with a film magazine.
A passage in 'Rekha - The Untold Story' states the following, "During these years a succession of names came to be associated with her: Shailendra Singh, Kamal Haasan, producer Rajeev Kumar, even Sanjay Dutt. One fine day, out of the blue, came the news of her marriage with Sanjay Dutt. An unfair rumour, because she was sincerely helping him recover from a rough patch. And the release of their film, Zameen Aasman, gained from the rumour. Sanjay Dutt had to actually issue a formal denial of their rumoured marriage."
Rekha has been linked to many of her co-stars in the past, the most famous of which was Amitabh Bachchan.
Sanjay Dutt is currently shooting for his comeback film, 'Bhoomi', in which 'Mary Kom' director, Omung Kumar is wielding the megaphone.
