Aamir Khan had to step back from attending an event in Pune on Sunday, given that both, he and wife Kiran Rao were diagnosed with swine flu.

The actor, however, did not leave organisers and fans disappointed as he summoned buddy Shah Rukh Khan to take his place instead.

Talking to the audience via Skype at the Paani Foundation water cup event, Aamir Khan said, "After working so hard for a year, when the time came for us to celebrate, this illness, which spreads rapidly, has forced us to stay at home for a week... Today is Friendship Day, so, I asked Shah Rukh Khan to attend the programme in my absence." Around 500 cases of swine flu have been reported in Mumbai, 25 among which have led to death.

However, BMC officials haven't received an official statement about the health condition of the actor and his director-wife. A senior BMC official from the health department says, "So far, we haven't received any official information about the Bollywood couple. We will inquire about it on Monday."
