Shreyas Iyer sweeps MCA awards

Mumbai batsman Shreyas Iyer emerged the star attraction of the Mumbai Cricket Association’s (MCA) annual awards function at the Mumbai Cricket Association–BKC ground on Saturday by claiming seven awards.

Iyer claimed four prizes for 2015-16 and three for the last season in which Mumbai emerged Ranji Trophy champions. Iyer got rewarded with late Shri Rajadyaksha Trophy for his highest number of runs in the Ranji Trophy – 809 and 1321 in 2014-15 and 2015-16 respectively. Iyer got a special award for the fastest century in Ranji Trophy — 100 in 81 balls against Uttar Pradesh in 2015-16 and 100 in 117 balls against Bengal in 2014-15. He also earned the Dattu Phadkar Trophy as the Ranji Trophy cricketer of the year for both seasons. Iyer’s fourth award for 2015-16 was the Justice Tendolkar Trophy for the best senior cricketer of the year.

Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy winning team and under-23 teams were felicitated for their triumphs in 2015-16 while Mumbai’s under-14, under-19 and women’s teams were rewarded for their 2014-15 achievements.
