Aamir Khan and Salman Khan as Amar and Prem
"We had been wanting to screen films for a long time but things were on hold for licensing and permission. We even tried getting a high-definition version of the film. The future editions of the carnival will be based on tonight's attendance," says Kunal Tipnis from House of Wow, the fest's venue, adding that the carnival will be a monthly affair. "The plan is to only screen classics from Bollywood and Hollywood. The screen size is six feet by four feet," he shares.
Shakti Kapoor as Crime Master Gogo
What is it about the 1994 film that still makes people go ROFL? Despite the power-packed lead cast — Aamir Khan, Raveena Tandon, Salman Khan and Karisma Kapoor -- the characters that are more remembered are Crime Master Gogo (Shakti Kapoor) and Teja (Paresh Rawal). Dialogues like "Teja main hoon, mark idhar hai" and "Khandaani chor hoon main" became so popular that they made it to T-shirts and other merchandise.
The spacious venue
So, what kind of films can one expect at the carnival? "There could be Jurassic Park, Star Wars and Dil Chahta Hai," says Tipnis. To add to the experience, there will also be a canteen at the venue selling samosas and beverages. Popcorn will be free with the movie ticket. "Screenings are open to families and if we have a film that is not suitable for kids, we will inform in advance," he says.
