St Mary's beat Kandivli's Swami Vivekanand 4-0

St marry's SSC (Mazgaon) registered a thumping 4-0 win over Swami Vivekanand (Kandivli) in the Mumbai Schools Sports Association (MSSA) Division I football tournament, courtesy a goal each from Moksh Surve, Mir Raza Sayed, Athar Ansari and Ali Raza Chauhan at Azad Maidan yesterday.


It took St Mary's just minutes to open their account when centre-forward Surve scored. Mir found his name on the scoresheet this time when he found the back of the net in the 11th minute. The striker capitalised on his teammate Moksh's shot which rebound after it hit the opposition goal post. At half-time, St Mary's were leading 2-0.


Athar Ansari scored for St Mary's immediately after the lemon break while Ali Raza Chauhan scored the last goal for his side in the 52nd minute. St Mary's 22-year-old coach Harsh Mistry was elated with his side's performance.


"I am very happy to see my team win this clash comfortably. My tactics and strategy worked well for the boys," Mistry told mid-day yesterday. In another Division I match, Christ Church (Byculla) drew 0-0 with Dominic Savio (Andheri).

Earlier in the day, during a Division II match, OLPS (Chembur) defeated St Xavier (Borivli) 5-0. OLPS' first goal was struck by defender Akhileshwaran B in the 12th minute while the next goal came from centre-forward Abhishek Darole. Aryan Gupta scored the third goal. Ananthakrishnan B struck the fourth goal and the final goal was hit by Akhileshwaran B to complete the rout.
