The mysteries of the solar system have baffled many a child and provided fodder for imagination. There are several books on the topic nowadays but nothing quite beats a puppet show on the theme. The puppet show (for four-year-olds and above) will expose children to the solar system, from the Sun and Moon to the planets, and provide them interesting facts about the solar system. It will be followed with games and activities.

Quiz the duo about why they chose Chhota Bheem as the central character of the puppet show, and Shah replies, “Chhota Bheem is a superhero for today’s kids. Indian kids finally have an Indian superhero to look up to; he was the perfect character to get the kids interested in an educative concept like the solar system.”

The show incorporates music and sound effects and also includes theme-based games such as Block The Asteroid, Planet Treasure Hunt and Grab The Ladoo. Little astronauts will also get a certificate certifying that they have successfully completed the space mission. It took educationists Shah and Desai two and a half months to complete the preparations for this show that included writing the script, creating props and the backdrop as well as ideating theme-based games keeping in mind children’s interest levels and their grasping power.

Another challenge was to keep it interesting, admits Desai: “Adding humour in a concept like the solar system was a challenge in its own way that we overcame by reliving and bringing out the child inside us.” Shah, currently works as a Montessori teacher at Khar’s Mindstein Montessori School while Desai is Head Teacher at Breach Candy’s The Miniland School.
