ABVP to demand compensation for students who may stand to lose an entire academic year of the delay in announcing results

After the abject mess that Mumbai University has landed itself in, there seems to be more trouble in store. The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) is to move the consumer court demanding compensation from the university for the mental and financial harassment caused by it following the huge delay in results. The students’ organisation is currently in the process of researching and collating factual information and discussing the matter with their lawyers in order to file a strong case.

Incidentally, ABVP is the official youth wing of the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), which has been facing the wrath of students over the delayed results.
The university’s delayed results have cost many students to lose an entire academic year, especially those seeking admission to higher education in universities abroad. The newly implemented On-Screen Marking (OSM) process has been blamed for this delay by all stakeholders.
The state government, which had been setting new deadlines for the declaration of results, finally asked Dr Deshmukh to go on leave and Dr Devanand Shinde, Vice-Chancellor of Shivaji University has been asked to take acting charge of the post.
"There are so many students who have missed their chance to study in foreign universities. We know of one student who has moved to a university in Switzerland with provisional admission, but the university has been constantly demanding her original mark-sheet, else she loses her seat. We already have more than 10 such cases of students losing an entire academic year. On behalf of these students, the ABVP will move the consumer court demanding compensation for mental and financial tortured," said Ravi Jaiswal, Mumbai head of ABVP.
When asked about the organisation’s association with the ruling party which is already facing much wrath over delayed results, Jaiswal said, "We may be associated with them but if the system fails and students suffer, it is our primary goal to fight against it for students’ support."
