The sock queens

Meet the real socks queens of India,Naazneen Katrak and Lubeina Shahpurwala who have built a sock empire through scratch. The socks that you wear to work, or the ones you wear to watch your kid's football game, Sunday dinner with the family, night classes, road trips, are likely to have been manufactured by them. A timeless piece

When it comes to indigenous vintage bespoke watches, House of Marigold, a proprietor firm owned by designer Shilpa Choksi, takes the cake. The watches here are designer hand-crafted timepieces with innovative dials, embedded with diamonds and gemstones, and pieces of jewellery designed around rings, brooches and neckpieces.

Move out

U Me Aur Ghar’s USP is really that it’s the country’s first film to be made exclusively for the Web. That’s really just about it. While the effort must be lauded, there’s better stuff online (from Indian makers too) about the struggles of live-in couples. Even if in this, Omkar Kapoor and Simran Kaur Mundi are a couple pretending to be brother and sister in order to get a flat. The Tinder jokes are staged and everyone’s trying too hard to be normal.

Pooch lessons

Quick test: Name five breeds of dogs. Now, part II. Name five Indian breeds of dogs. Failed?
What do we know about Indian breeds really? Few of us know that some have gone extinct, or are on the brink, because of our firang fixation. But, there’s so much more to learn. Aleph’s latest The Book of Indian Dogs by S Theodore Baskaran is a must-pick if you want to know a little more about the pooch you love. It also covers portrayal of the canines in Indian art.

Song alert!

WE heard Anmol Malik’s Let Me Come Home recently and were pleasantly surprised by the dance number. It’s got a retro vibe, and we were hopping along as we heard it on our headphones. Popular music director Anu Malik’s daughter’s vocals are sweet and controlled, and the writing isn’t too bad either. But, it’s the way the song is produced by Mumbai-based Gaurav Godkhindi that caught our fancy. Tight and innovative. Here’s waiting for more from him.
