Tariq Khan talks about his 'Mantostaan' journey

Tariq Khan is connected to stories of Manto from childhood. In his town Poonch when he was reading stories of Manto, he never thought to become a producer and actor of Manto's stories. When he was 16 or 17, stories of Manto was one of the source of entertainment, stories of Manto always haunt him but he was not aware at that time that one day he will be a part of Manto's stories and travel with them across the world festivals.

Here is the discussion with him about 'Mantostaan':

How was the journey of 'Mantostaan'?
The journey started with the discussion about to make film with my childhood friend and director Rahat Kazmi and actor Raghubir Yadav. When Rahat offered me the role of Ram Singh, I was surprised; because I know that Rahat never offers character without thinking many times. He motivated me that I can do the character. We are going to make film not a product to sell - that was the first thing we kept in mind. Now Mantostaan has released and it has traveled across the world.

How did you prepare for the character?
First of all the actor who was playing the role of my childhood friend is actually my childhood friend. We were shooting in real locations of India-Pak border. These things made it easier for me to get into the character. The story, screenplay and dialouges are very emotional and touchy, sometimes they make me cry in real life. I could feel the pain of people who suffered during partition.

How was the experience in festivals?
I feel proud to say that our film has opened in MARCHE DU FILM FESTIVAL in Cannes. We have also won many awards as best director, best actor, best film and best actress in different festivals. One of the most amazing things I have seen across the world that people from worldwide read Manto's stories and know the details about him. Over all, the experince was amazing.
