Curtains came down on The Rising Star, touted as the first live reality show, on Sunday with Punjabi munda Bannet Dosanjh emerging winner. Interestingly, Bannet hails from the northern state's Dosanjh village, which is also home to singer-actor and show judge Diljit Dosanjh. He took home a prize money of Rs 20 lakh and has also clinched a deal with Vishesh Films — he will get playback opportunity in Mahesh Bhatt's next.

Speaking to mid-day, Bannet says, "One couldn't ask for a better offer. Shankar Mahadevan (also a judge on the show) sir also told me he'd want to work with me. As for the winnings, I want to use the money for my sister's wedding and for my parents."

Bannet heads back to Punjab, where he already has a few shows lined up. "I want to go back and promote my kind of music. I want to introduce a blend of Sufi and Punjabi folk in Bollywood."

In an overcrowded film music industry, will Bannet make his mark? "I am off to a good start. Ultimately, it's your hard work that counts. On Rising Star, I have learnt so much and never intend to stop learning. The judges imparted lessons that will take me farther," he asserts.
