Renowned Telugu poet, lyricist and writer C Narayan Reddy passed away today (June 12) at the age of 85.


He was honoured with the Padma Shri award in 1977. He also won the Jnanpith Award in 1988 for 'Visvambara'. He also received the country's third-highest civilian award Padma Bhushan in 1992.

He is noted for his wide array of work and was considered an authority in Telugu literature. He had also penned several songs for Telugu films.

C Narayan Reddy was born in Karimnagar district, Andhra Pradesh. He had a MA and PhD in Telugu literature from the Osmania University.

C Narayan Reddy was nominated to the Rajya Sabha in August 1997.
