Serena Williams intends to return to tennis in 2018 after her pregnancy was confirmed late on Wednesday night.
The 35-year-old is expecting her first child with fiancé and Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian in autumn, news which was earlier teased on the social media app Snapchat when she posted a hastily deleted picture of herself in a yellow swimsuit, showing off a bump with the caption "20 weeks".
Her representatives have confirmed that she will not feature in any more tournaments this year and is planning a return in 2018.
The well-wishes poured in after the confirmation, with fellow American Andy Roddick tweeting: "There's going to be a baby GOAT (greatest of all time). We are so happy and we know @serenawilliams will be a great mother. Meanwhile, Angelique Kerber wrote: "You will be such an amazing mother and I wish your family health and happiness for the best journey in the world."
