A 17-year-old girl has been arrested for throwing her newborn baby out of the window. Vishnu Nagar police recovered the baby from the roof of a house in a slum in Raghuveer Nagar, Dombivli east. During investigation it was found that the baby was borne out of an illicit relationship and hence the accused wanted to get rid of it.

According to police, on October 26 when a resident of the area heard the cries of a baby, she immediately started looking for it. Thereafter, she found an abandoned baby on the roof of one of the slums. She immediately informed the police.

A case was registered and the cops began hunting for the parents of the new born.

Police says
Police inspector of Vishnu Nagar police station Nitin Patil reached the spot and started investigation. During a spot search he noticed that there was a building adjoining the slum and a window on the first floor was open.

He also found some bloodstains on the window. Thereafter, he started enquiring about the family to find out whether any pregnancy had taken place.

"We found out that a woman from the family delivered a baby boy some eight days ago but the child was with her. Further, we found that the family had shifted to the flat just three months ago and earlier they used to stay at Siddarth Nagar in Dombivli. A team was then sent to Siddarth Nagar, where it was revealed that a minor girl from the family was in a relationship with a boy from the same locality.

Eventually, she became pregnant. Fearing that they would lose face in the society, the family shifted to Raghuveer Nagar, where the girl delivered a baby boy," said an officer from Vishnu Nagar police station.

Indrajeet Karle, senior police inspector, Vishnu Nagar police station said, "We have detained the minor girl and sent her to Bhiwandi remand home. The baby has also been sent to Janani Ashish Charitable Trust in Dombivli, where he is being looked after. We are investigating the matter further."

The accused has accepted the crime. Karle said, "Parents of the girl claimed that they were not aware of the delivery. They said that she must have delivered the baby in the bathroom at night."
