Vivek Chakra was a resident of Kongaon, and a TYBCom graduate who made banners. He stayed near Patri Pool with his family. Vivek’s elder brother, Rahul, claimed that on Sunday night, Ravindra Shinde (21), a friend of Vivek, received a call from him saying he was committing suicide by jumping from the Durgadi bridge in Kalyan. “Shinde informed us about it. I was shocked and rushed to the spot along with Shinde and my friend Deepak in an auto rickshaw,” said Rahul.

‘I tried to stop him’
When he reached the spot Rahul saw his brother about to jump into the creek. “I rushed towards him and tried to stop him, but he pushed me away. I assume that he was drunk. I fell down, and Deepak caught Vivek’s hand, but he pushed him away too and jumped,” added Rahul.

Police said the auto rickshaw driver rushed to a traffic police constable standing nearby and informed him about the incident. The constable informed senior officers and the control room after which the police reached the spot. Rahul and his friend then informed the Kalyan Fire Brigade. “Later, we found that no boats were available and the search was possible only in the morning. The next morning the Kongaon police along with the Bazarpeth police and the fire brigade officials started the search operation. It’s almost two days since my son is missing and the authorities have still not found him,” said Ram Jeevan Chakra, Vivek’s father.

‘He was tense’
Rahul added that his brother had a mobile phone in his pocket and the police could also trace it to find the location. “We have lost all hope from the authorities. My brother was tense for over five days due to some reason. He was not eating at home, my parents and I asked him the reason, but he was not ready to reveal it. He didn’t tell his friends either,” added Rahul.

Police says
Mangesh Sawant, senior police inspector, Kongaon police station in Bhiwandi said, “The incident took place late night on Sunday. We have taken the statement of the family members and the friend who received the call. The search operation is going on with the help of fire brigade and locals.”
