The Thane police has sent notices to bungalow owners at Yeoor Hills asking them to toe the line considering that the area is an eco-sensitive zone. Residents in the area have complained to the authorities often about the loud music from these bungalows. Yeoor Hills, a tourist attraction on the eastern edge of Sanjay Gandhi National Park, has lost its idyllic charm. The calming chirping of birds and the rejuvenating stillness have been shattered by blaring parties, claim residents.

Recently, the Vartak Nagar police put up 20 banners from the entrance of the Yeoor Hill gate till the end of the road, asking them to follow noise pollution norms.

Pradeep Girkar, Senior Police Inspector, Vartak Nagar Police Station, said, "There are around 100 bungalows in the area. We pointed out that around 50 are violating the norms. We sent a notice to all these where parties are regularly organised with loud music. We have informed the owners that even if the bungalows are being rented out, they will be held responsible for any violation."

Those guilty will be booked under section of the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules 2000. "Patrolling is being conducted round the clock," he added.

In it's May 1 edition, mid-day had reported how residents in Yeoor were unable to get a good night's sleep because of all the noise. A local resident claimed that after he complained, he was asked by many bungalow owners to keep shut. "Most of the bungalow's are owned by politicians who enjoy partying in the hills," he added.
