City crime branch officials have arrested three people for allegedly kidnapping a senior citizen and robbing his gold ornaments.

According to the officials, the incident took place on July 3, when Sambhaji Goltakar, 62, was outdoors, around 10 pm. "Four people pounced on him from behind. While one of them covered his mouth with a kerchief, two of the men restrained him and the fourth person hailed an auto. Two of the men accompanied Goltakar in an auto and the other two followed closely behind in another rickshaw. They got down at Jogeshwari, from where the men dragged Goltakar to the Jogeshwari railway track. They took away his gold chain, rings and cash worth R1,95,000. Then, they pushed Goltakar near the track and fled from the spot," a source from the crime branch said, adding that after the incident, Goltakar headed to Kanjurmarg police station to file a report.

The police immediately filed an FIR against four unknown individuals under Sections 341 (wrongful restraint), 363 (kidnapping), 392 (robbery), 394 (causing hurt) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the IPC and started investigations.

After the initial probe, crime branch officers got a tip-off yesterday that the accused may be heading to Sangharsh Nagar, Chandivli. "We laid a trap and arrested three of the accused. They have been identified as Mahesh Mohite, 30, Ilyas Shaikh, 27, and Janardan Lad, 35. They have been handed over to the Kanjurmarg police. We are looking for the fourth accused," a crime branch officer said.
