Meena Kumari was known for her strikingly good looks. Meena Kumari started working at the age of 4, to help support her family. She became a common face at various studios. Meena made her acting debut at the age of 7, as a child actor in Farzande Watan. She played the daughter of Jairaj Singh in the movie. In the year, 1950, she also played Jairaj Singh's love interest in the film Maghroor. Meena Kumari's original name was Mehajabeen Naaz. The director of Farzande Watan, Vijay Bhatt, changed her name to Baby Meena for his movie. Once she grew up, she became popularly known as Meena Kumari.

After she made her way into the industry, there was no looking back for the actress. She quoted high fees and producers used to wait outside her house. She gained financial independence and there was no pressure on her to compromise with the roles she was offered. On her 85th birth anniversary is on Tuesday (August 1) television actresses pay her tribute.

Tejasswi Prakash: Meena Kumari is inspiration. She is the only heroine to have all the nominations in the Filmfare awards. She was called the Chinese doll! With her droop of curl dropping on her face, combined with an anguish-laden voice. Even her portrait speaks a lot. I wish to get those gestures from her.

Helly Shah: Meena Kumari is inspiration. There is so much to learn from her. As an artist I want to act like her, the way she performed brilliantly. She was addicted to books. She use to enjoy reading books and writing poems and gazal. I cant relate myself to her but having mutul hobbies with a person like her make me feel blush.

Amrapali Gupta: I remember during childhood when Meena Kumari's movie or her mythological shows use to air on screen. I use to watch seriously and later try to copy her act. Meena Kumari who had once become a regular face in Hindu mythological shows as she used to play Hindu goddess in most of these shows really inspired me a lot. Her acting, gestures and the way she carry herself is even exclusive today.

Devoleena Bhattacharjee: Meena Kumari is inspiration for all. Her seductive voice and charismatic screen presence captured millions of hearts. From passion, romance, love, success to tragedy - she witnessed all of these in her real life too. Her work even today is challenging the bollywood screen.

Mahika Sharma: I cant think of relating myself with the Beauty and talent queen Meena Kumari but read she was not a party person and even I'm not. She was described to get bored at such events, so I do. I also read she had decorated her house mostly with white objects and use to love white outfits. So even I love white. When you can relate somehow to the person you admire that gives you happiness. She is really inspiring.

Yuvika Chaudhary: Meena Kumari is inspiration to every female Indian actress. She taught even an actress owns liberty and democracy in showbiz. She made it clear that without heroines a movie is baseless, as they owns all the emotions. Love, romance anything. I'm fan of her songs, especially Ajeeb Dastan Hai Yeh.
