The fight to lift the Border-Gavaskar Trophy has been acrimonious to say the least. There have been on-field spats, off-field ones, insinuations and taunts through the media as well. Well, the series may be about to end, but that doesn't mean the gloves are off.

In what will leave a bad taste in the mouths of the Indian cricketers, Australian captain Steven Smith has been caught on camera mouthing expletives and accusing an Indian player of being a cheat.

The incident took place towards the end of the Australian 2nd innings -- in the 54th over. With just the final wicket remaining, Murali Vijay, at gully, claimed to have caught an edge from Aussie No 11 Josh Hazlewood off Ravichandran Ashwin's bowling.

With his team having scored a paltry 137 till then, Smith was upset. And Vijay rushing off to the dressing room even before the umpires' decision left the Aussie skipper in an extremely foul mood that led to his abuse. Unfortunately for Smith, the broadcasters caught him on camera mouthing that swear word.

HERE'S THE VIDEO:

Hazlewood, however, failed to capitalise on the lifeline thrown to him and departed two balls later after getting trapped lbw by Ashwin for a duck.

The incident was highlighted because of the Twitter conversation between two Australian journalists.

Twitterati didn't take kindly to Smith's choice of words.
