Everton boss Koeman unimpressed by Wayne Rooney's drink-driving arrest; stresses striker will be disciplined at the 'appropriate time'

Everton manager Ronald Koeman admits he is "very disappointed" by Wayne Rooney's drink-driving charge and the striker will be disciplined "at the appropriate time".

Rooney, 31, was arrested and charged by police in the early hours of Friday and will appear at Stockport Magistrates Court on September 18.
Koeman, reading from a statement, said: "Obviously, I am very disappointed by this situation regarding Wayne Rooney. We have spoken on Tuesday and the chairman Bill Kenwright spoke also to Wayne about this situation."

"In line with any disciplinary matter this will be dealt with internally at an appropriate time and that is all I have to say about the case of Wayne Rooney." Koeman last month spoke of the positive influence Rooney, who has scored twice in seven appearances since returning to his boyhood club, has had in the dressing room.
Asked whether the situation had affected the player, Koeman added: "He will play this Saturday. If I see that Wayne is not in a physical or mental condition to play then he won't play."
Change in EPL window
English Premier League clubs voted on to close the 2018 close-season transfer window before the start of the 2018-19 campaign. Following complaints by managers that transfer activity disturbs their preparations, clubs will not be able to register new players after 1600 GMT on Thursday before the season starts.
"Premier League clubs have agreed to a rule amendment that will see the summer transfer window in any year end at 17:00 on the Thursday before the start of the season," the Premier League said in a statement. "It will have no bearing on other leagues."
