Who was the best-dressed Bollywood star on the red carpet in 2015?

From classic gowns and embellished sarees to risqué, hip-baring and crop top outfits, versatile looks have popped up on the crimson rug this year. Popular designers of the industry point out showstopping styles which made the cut for 2015’s best red carpet looks and share tips for the upcoming awards season.

Rocky S

Sonam Kapoor

“I feel Sonam Kapoor puts in the maximum effort to be different and unique, and always manages to do so too. She made quite an impact at Cannes this year, especially in the Ralph and Russo gown.”

Quick tip: I would love to see more of traditional wear on the red carpet since it has been missing in action for a while. It really suits the Indian silhouette.

Ridhi Arora

Deepika Padukone

“Deepika Padukone was a show-stealer in a Monica Jaisingh gown. She looked pristine and kept the look balanced and classy.”

Quick tip: Evening gowns in metallic shades are the in-thing this season. Chic separates in solid colours make for a great style statement.

Masumi Mewawalla

Priyanka Chopra

“Priyanka Chopra looked stunning in an orange asymmetric silhouette gown that she wore to an awards function. The shade is a little tricky to pull off, but she did great.”

Quick tip: Actresses should opt for bold yet subtle looks with clean placement of cuts and stitches with little sheen on the embroidery.

Anuj Madan

Imran Khan

“One of my favorite red carpet looks is what Imran Khan wore to a recent event. Teaming a Tom Ford tuxedo with a turtle neck was a great way to experiment and stand out.”

Quick tip: Navy blue is the colour to opt for. It need not always be a shirt; one can even pair a dinner jacket with a turtleneck. Accessorise with trendy cuff links or lapel pin.

Raghavendra Rathore

Kartik Aaryan

“Kartik Aaryan at a film festival opening was definitely a winner in the men’s department. A bandhgala can never disappoint, and wearing it to a red carpet event shows its versatility.”

Quick tip: A classic will always be a classic, nothing compares. So keep it simple, chic and super classic.

Rick Roy

Sonam Kapoor

“Sonam Kapoor’s Cannes look, hands down. This is a unique silhouette and not a safe bet at all. What is admirable about Sonam is that she takes risks and owns the outfits she wears no matter how risqué the style might be.”

Quick tip: Volume is definitely coming back, so, big, ornate pieces are what actresses should play around with. Also, nudes and skins ruled this season, so I hope actors go big with colour on the red carpet.
