    Pradhuman, a Class II student, was found dead by a school staff in the washroom with his throat slit at Ryan International School in Sohna. A knife, presumably the murder weapon, was found near the body. "The boy reached the school hardly an hour before he was found dead. We are questioning the school staff while teachers are speaking to other students to find any clues," a senior police officer told IANS. The incident occurred on September 8th, when some students found Pradhuman Thakur (7), the victim lying in a pool of blood in a toilet in the school building at around 8:30 am

    "The students alerted the teachers and the school management then informed police, who rushed him to Artemis Hospital. He was declared brought dead by doctors," Ravinder Kumar, PRO Gurgaon Police, said. A police team, including forensic experts, is probing the case and has collected blood sample and finger prints from the scene. A knife with blood stains was also recovered from the spot, he said.

    As per the boy’s father, "They told me his health deteriorated suddenly. They did not take care of my son.  He could have been saved if he had been taken to hospital in time," he said. The school’s caretaker Neerja Batra said the kid was alive when they saw him lying in the pool of blood. "The child was looking serious. We didn't lose a minute. The kid was alive when we saw him lying in the pool of blood. We took him to the hospital immediately. Police are here to investigate the matter and after investigation one can say from where the knife came inside the school premises," she added.

    "It was a normal day. I left my child in the school and then went back to home. After I reached home, I got a call from the school saying that he is in hospital and he is bleeding and that he was found lying down on the floor of the washroom. After this, I rushed to the hospital and by the time I reached, my child was no more. It is a clear case of murder, don't know what happened but I am sure its murder," said the father.

    The very next day, on September 9th, ten persons, including a gardener, conductors and drivers, were detained  for the murder of a seven-year-old student. "We have detained 10 people, including a gardener and drivers and conductors. We have been investigating their role since early morning," said Sumit Kuhar, DCP Crime, Gurgaon.

    Hours after the incident, the Gurugram Police confirmed that the accused bus conductor who was arrested in the murder case of Ryan International School student tried to sexually assault the lad before killing him. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Simardeep Singh told that accused Ashok, a resident village Ghamroj in Haryana, killed the boy when he tried to raise an alarm. "The accused is a bus conductor and was arrested. He attempted to sexually assault the boy, when boy raised an alarm he killed the boy. During the preliminary investigation, the accused tried to sexually assault the child," the DCP told the media.

    The police said Ashok Kumar told them he managed to carry a knife into the school because he knew he would not be frisked by the guards at the gate since he was a known face. The police said he then went to the washroom, and then waited there, intending to commit sodomy on any student who walked in.

    "As soon as the boy entered the toilet, Kumar held him. But the boy resisted his attempts with full force and when the accused failed to sodomise him, he slit his throat and right ear," a senior police officer told PTI. The police claimed he later washed his hands and walked out of the washroom, leaving the knife behind. He also tried to help the teachers when the boy was being taken to the hospital.

    "Ashok Kumar carried the boy with the others and took him to the car," the officer said. The police said it had earlier detained and questioned 10 people, including a gardener, conductors, and drivers. "We have been investigating their role since the morning," the DCP said.

A statement released by the school authority stated that, "We are deeply saddened by the tragic incident that occurred at our school today, involving a class II student - Pradyuman Thakur. He had suffered critical injuries and was immediately rushed to the hospital by the school head-Neerja Batra. Despite all attempts, unfortunately his life could not be saved due to his injuries".

    Ryan International Group CEO Ryan Pinto and his parents, who are its founders, approached the Bombay High Court today to seek anticipatory bail in connection with the child's murder in the chain's Gurgaon school on September 11th.  Also, Acting on the report of a three-member panel that had indicated lapses, the two top officials of the school management were arrested under section 75 of the Juvenile Justice act, police officials said.

    On the same day, September 11th, the SHO of Sadar Police Station on Sohna Road in Gurgaon was suspended over a baton-charge on protesting parents, as well as journalists, outside the school premises. Protests continued at other places with the parents of children studying in Ryan International School's Noida and Greater Noida branches seeking an assurance regarding safety of their wards.
