‘Main culprits’ behind killing of two teenage students held by CBI: Biren Singh

The tensions in violence-hit Manipur heightened again after teenagers were allegedly “kidnapped and killed” by armed miscreants. Acting swiftly on it, Home Minister Amit Shah appointed CBI Special Director, and other officials in Manipur to investigate the matter. The CBI team led by Special Director Ajay Bhatnagar reached Manipur on September 27 to investigate the murder of two students. Meanwhile, Manipur CM Biren Singh informed that the CBI has arrested four accused from Churachandpur in this case.

Manipur Viral Video: Centre to refer Manipur viral video case to CBI

The case of Manipur viral video that showcased two women being paraded naked will now be handed over to the CBI for investigation, according to the sources. The Ministry of Home Affairs has decided to refer this case to Central Bureau of Investigation along with filling the affidavit in Supreme Court requesting the trial of viral video case to take place outside Manipur. Notably, this comes following the seventh arrest in the petrifying case that jolted the entire nation. Meanwhile, as per top govt sources, State Police has nabbed the person who shot the viral video and seized the mobile phone. As per sources, Centre also held several rounds of talks with members of the Kuki and Meitei communities. The government sources also told that law and order situation is improving in the ethnic-clash-hit state. Meanwhile, the Parliament continues to witness massive uproar from Opposition, seeking PM Modi’s comprehensive statement. Manipur violence has been simmering since early May as a result of ethnic violence after Kukis protested Meitei community's demand for ST status.

ICICI Bank fraud case: CBI arrests Videocon Group chairman Venugopal Dhoot

CBI on Dec 26 arrested Chairman of the Videocon Group Venugopal Dhoot, in connection with ICICI bank fraud case. Earlier, CBI arrested former ICICI Bank CEO Chanda Kochhar and her husband on Dec 23 in connection the case. The Kochhars are currently being interrogated by the investigation agency after being presented in a Mumbai court on Dec 24. Chanda Kochhar is accused of favouring Venugopal Dhoot when she was heading the bank. The CBI alleged that ICICI Bank sanctioned a loan of Rs 3,250 crore to Videocon Group in violation of RBI’s Banking Regulation Act. In October 2018, Chanda Kochhar, stepped down as the CEO and MD of the bank following the allegations. In September 2020, the ED arrested Mr Kochhar as one of the main accused in the ICICI-Videocon loan case.
