Centre reduced corruption, prevented ‘Bhai-Bhatijawad'

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on February 01 said the concept of social justice was used as a political slogan in the previous governments, however, today the BJP-led Central government has adopted the idea of social justice into its governance adding that the policies of the Centre has brought "secularism into action, reduced corruption, and prevented nepotism". "This is secularism in action, reduces corruption, prevents nepotism," Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said while presenting the Interim Budget 2024 in Lok Sabha. "Social Justice was largely a political slogan. For our government, social justice is an effective and necessary governance model !! The saturation approach of covering all eligible people is the true and comprehensive achievement of social justice," Nirmala Sitharaman added.

Budget 2024: Watch Nirmala Sitharaman’s Interim Budget 2024 speech

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on 1st February, presented the Union Interim Budget 2024-25 today. This is her 6th consecutive budget presentation. In her Interim budget 2024 speech, she highlighted the Government’s vision for ‘Viksit Bharat’ and plans to achieve the same looking ahead at ‘Amrit Kaal’ of 2047. She said, "Our government will adopt economic policies that foster and sustain growth, facilitate inclusive and sustainable development, improve productivity, create opportunities for all, help them enhance their capabilities and contribute to generation of resources to power investments and fulfil aspirations...". In her speech, to address fervour for domestic tourism, the finance minister announced floating projects for port connectivity, tourism infra & amenities on islands including Lakshadweep. For further growth of the agriculture sector, the government has pitched to further promote public & private investment in post-harvest activities.

In her interim Budget 2024 speech, she announced that there will be no change in the tax structure. “I do not propose to make any changes relating to the taxation and propose to retain the same tax rates for direct and indirect taxes including import duties”.
