A deadly cyclone wreaked havoc in parts of WB’s Jalpaiguri as rain and hailstorms hit area causing major damage to life and property. As many as five people have lost their lives over 100 got injured as weather’s wrath on March 31. JGMCH Medical Superintendent said that as many as 49 are admitted and over 170 patients reported in emergency department. Taking to ‘X’, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee assured supporting affected families and compensation to them. A group of people allegedly attacked foreign students in one of the hostels of Gujarat University Ahmedabad on March 16. Police informed that the scuffle broke out as the foreign students were offering Namaz in the hostel premises. Ahmedabad Police Commissioner Gyanendra Singh Malik informed that stones were pelted and some hostel rooms were damaged. “Around 300 foreign students study here in Gujarat University. Some of them are from African nations, some are from Sri Lanka, some from Afghanistan. In the A block of the hostel, around 75 students live. Some were offering Namaz around 10:30 pm yesterday. Some 20-25 men came and asked them why are they offering Namaz here and it should be done in Masjid. On this, a heated argument and scuffle broke out. Stones were pelted, rooms were damaged. Police immediately responded and FIR was lodged. Strict action will be taken against persons involved. One person is identified. Rest will also be identified soon. The law and order situation here is under control,” he informed.

Just weeks before the 2024 Lok Sabha Polls, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee sustained a significant injury on March 14, leading to her hospitalization. Rushed to SSKM Hospital by TMC GS Abhishek Banerjee, she bore a serious forehead wound. While TMC All India Trinamool Congress briefed her well-wishers about the incident, no official statement was released. Kunal Ghosh had foreseen a mishap at her residence. Despite this, an outpouring of support was witnessed from her followers outside the hospital. Meanwhile, leaders including Delhi CM Kejriwal, TN CM MK Stalin, WB BJP Prez Sukanta Majumdar, and others expressed their hopes for her swift recovery. Following her admission, she was transferred from Woodburn Block to the Trauma Care Centre. This incident echoes prior injuries sustained before the WB Legislative Assembly Elections in 2021 and the Panchayat Polls in 2023.

A massive explosion took place at Rameshwaram Cafe in Brookfield in East Bengaluru on 1st of March. The Bengaluru police and fire brigade rushed to the popular cafe after receiving a call about the explosion. The blast occurred during the lunch time between 1:30 pm to 2:00 pm. Reportedly, 4 people have been injured in the blast. Shattered glass and furniture were seen strewn on the floor of the cafe, which is a big draw among residents. The area was secured by Police and Fire Brigade teams and the injured were hospitalised. Police have begun an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the blast.

Security has been stepped up in Banbhoolpura area of Uttarakhand’s Haldwani after violence broke out. An anti-encroachment drive was carried out on February 08 after which violence broke out in the area. So far, 4 persons killed, and over 100 policemen sustained injuries in the Haldwani violence. Four companies of paramilitary forces were rushed to the city to maintain the law and order situation. District Magistrate has imposed a curfew in Banbhoolpura and issued shoot-at-sight orders. Many vehicles including cars, motorcycles were set ablaze during the violence on February 08. Internet Services have been suspended and educational institutions have been closed in the district. Uttarakhand Police has also requested the Home Ministry to send additional paramilitary forces. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami urged locals to maintain the law and order in district.

A woman died and 17 others were injured after the stage collapsed during Jagran ceremony at Kalkaji Mandir in Delhi on Jan 27. According to Delhi Police, no permission was granted to hold the event, however, sufficient staff was deployed to maintain law and order. As per the temple’s priest, renowned singers like B Praak, Kanhaiya Mittal were present. There was a huge crowd in a tightly-packed venue. The kalkaji mandir tragedy happened when scores of devotees climbed the main stage to catch a glimpse of Punjabi musician B Praak. All the injured were shifted to the city’s AIIMS Trauma Centre, Safdarjung Hospital and MAX Hospital.

At least 4 persons died, over 70 were injured after 21 coaches of North East Express train derailed. The mishap took place near Raghunathpur Station in Buxar district of Bihar on October 11. However, the restoration work is still underway at the Raghunathpur Station in Bihar’s Buxar. Union Minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey is present at ground zero. Notably, the train was going from Anand Vihar Terminal, Delhi to Kamakhya in Assam. Locals and district administrations rescued the passengers, and the critically injured were referred to AIIMS Patna. A special train was also arranged for the stranded passengers and they will be shifted to special train. The reason behind the incident will be investigated once the rescue operation is over.

Six people were killed and 20 injured in a major road accident in Maharashtra's Buldhana late last night. According to the police, two buses collided head-on at around 2.30 am on NH 53 at Nandur Naka flyover in Malkapur area. District collector of Buldhana, gave information about this incident. This is the second major bus accident in the Buldhana district recently. On July 1, at least 25 people, including three children, were burnt to death, and eight others were injured when the bus they were travelling in caught fire on the Samruddhi-Mahamarg Expressway in the district.
