Arvind Kejriwal Arrest: Delhi Police detains AAP workers

Following the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the excise policy case by ED, AAP workers have called for a 'gherao' outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi's residence, denouncing the arrest. Protesters voiced slogans against the detention. Delhi Police also detained Punjab Minister and AAP leader Harjot Singh Bains along with a few AAP workers who were protesting. Speaking on the AAP protest in Delhi today, party leader Reena Gupta said, "We demand that Arvind Kejriwal should be released immediately. His arrest is illegal. PM Modi is afraid and he wants Arvind Kejriwal to not campaign for the upcoming elections. Today we will protest and nobody can stop us."Punjab Minister and AAP leader Harjot Singh Bains lashed at ED for being biased and not arresting J.P. Nadda as he accused him of money money-trailing case. He further bashed Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said, “I want to ask our Prime Minister why is he so scared of Arvind Kejriwal and along with him he is also scared of us because of which he has deployed so many security personnel throughout Delhi.”

Somali Pirates in Mumbai: 35 Somali pirates handed over to Mumbai Police by Navy

Indian Navy’s warship INS Kolkata brought 35 captured Somali pirates to India on March 23. All 35 Somalian pirates were handed over to Mumbai Police after due formalities of Customs and Immigration. After being handed to Mumbai Police, the pirates were taken to JJ Hospital for medical examination. The pirates were captured by the Indian Navy in an Anti-Piracy operation on March 16 from the Arabian Sea. As part of the Indian Navy’s anti-maritime security operations, INS Kolkata intercepted the hijacked vessel, ex-MV Ruen. The navy intercepted ex-MV Ruen, which was reported to have sailed out as a pirate ship on high seas. After over 40 hours of operation, Indian Navy coerced all 35 Pirates to surrender and ensured safe evacuation of 17 crew members. The Navy shared a video of its encounter with Somali pirates who were using a hijacked merchant vessel. The pirates onboard the vessel were called upon to surrender and release the vessel.

Noida Police arrested YouTuber and Bigg Boss OTT 2 winner Elvish Yadav on March 17. He was produced at the Districts and Sessions Court, Surajpur, in the snake venom rave party case. The Bigg Boss OTT 2 Winner had been reprimanded to 14 days of judicial custody in connection with a case under the wildlife protection act, 1972. Elvish Yadav was one of the 6 individuals named in an FIR filed at sector 49 police station on 3rd November, 2023. Although 5 other accused were arrested, they are currently out on bail, according to the officials.  Watch video for more.

China ship in Mumbai: Indian agencies suspect nuclear link in Pak-bound ship

A Pakistan-bound ship coming from China was stopped at Mumbai by the Indian security agencies on March 02. The Karachi-bound ship was intercepted at Mumbai’s Nhava Sheva port. The vessel was suspected of carrying a consignment that could be used for Pakistan’s nuclear missile programmes. The ship was thoroughly examined by a team of Defense Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). The components in the cargo ship were primarily suspected of being used in Pak’s nuclear initiatives, specifically, in manufacturing some critical components for missile development. However, the DRDO is yet to submit its final report on the vessel stopped at the port.

Sandeshkhali violence: Police and BJP supporters clash in West Bengal’s Basirhat

The political storm over the events at Bengal’s Sandeshkhali sparked violence in another part of the state on February 13. Clashes broke out between police personnel and BJP supporters on February 13 after efforts were made to defy prohibitory orders clamped in the vicinity of the SP’s office in West Bengal's Basirhat prior to the agitation of the party over allegations of sexual harassment of women in Sandeshkhali block leading to Sandeshkhali violence. BJP workers, led by the party’s state chief, Sukanta Majumdar, clashed with the police in Basirhat after being stopped from holding a protest. Police personnel were seen charging party workers as the latter broke through barricades and entered the village. Scenes of chaos filled the village as the police resorted to lathi-charge to drive away the protesters. After which, several workers and Sukanta Majumdar were detained. Later, West Bengal BJP chief Sukanta Majumdar, along with the other workers of the party, were released. Sukanta Majumdar said, “The police detained us and party workers... The police misbehaved even with the women workers of the party... We will take the police to the court... They treated us like thieves or criminals... The police do not obey the Constitution of the CrPC, they only listen to Mamata Banerjee.”
