Nasheed, currently in India, conveyed apologies on behalf of the Maldivian people and emphasised their wish for Indian tourists to continue visiting the country. Nasheed highlighted the impact of the boycott on the Maldives, stating, "It has impacted the Maldives a lot, and I am actually here in India. I'm very worried about this. I want to say the people of the Maldives are sorry, we are sorry that this has happened. We want Indian people to come on their holidays to the Maldives, and there will not be any change in our hospitality."

As per the Russian Prison service, Navalny died after a walk at the “Polar Wolf” Arctic penal colony. US President Joe Biden said that he was “not surprised” by the news of Navalny’s death. Alexei Navalny, serving death sentence on multiple corruption charges, was seen as the leading opposition figure against President Putin. Navalny rose to prominence more than a decade ago by speaking publicly against corruption in Russia and used to organise major anti-Kremlin protests.

Jailed Russian Opposition leader Alexei Navalny And President Putin critic dies

Prominent critic of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Alexei Navalny died in a prison on Feb 16. The 47-year-old Russian Opposition leader was serving a three-decade jail term was found dead at the Artic jail. As per the Russian Prison service, Navalny died after a walk at the “Polar Wolf” Arctic penal colony. The Federal Penitentiary Service of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District said in a statement that Navalny felt unwell after a walk. Raising suspicion over Navalny’s death news, his wife Yulia Navalnaya said that it is difficult for her to believe the reports as ‘Putin and his govt lie incessantly’. Navalny’s death news comes as President Putin prepares for Russian Presidential Elections aiming to extend his rule till 2030. Earlier in 2020, Navalny was poisoned during a flight to Moscow in 2020 and was rushed to Germany for urgent treatment. Navalny returned to Russia in 2021 and got arrested over fraud and extremism charges and was sentenced to 9 years in jail. Alexei Navalny, serving death sentence on multiple corruption charges was seen as the leading opposition figure against President Putin. PM Modi witnesses launch Of UPI Services In Mauritius, Sri Lanka

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President of Sri Lanka Ranil Wickremesinghe, and Prime Minister of Mauritius Pravind Jugnauth on February 12 witnessed the launch of Unified Payment Interface (UPI) services in Sri Lanka and Mauritius, and also RuPay card services in Mauritius, via video conferencing. The launch will enable the availability of UPI settlement services for Indian nationals travelling to Sri Lanka and Mauritius as well as for Mauritian nationals travelling to India. The extension of RuPay card services in Mauritius will enable Mauritian banks to issue cards based on the RuPay mechanism in Mauritius and facilitate usage of RuPay Card for settlements both in India and Mauritius.

Former Navy men were accused of allegedly spying on a submarine programme and were sentenced to Qatar death penalty. Following intervention by India’s MEA, the capital punishment was later commuted to an extended prison term. Seven of the total eight former Indian Navy personnel returned home from Qatar on February 12. Notably, PM Modi met with Amir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani on the sidelines of COP 28 Summit in Dubai. COP 28 Summit was held from 30 Nov till 12 Dec 2023, after the Qatar authorities had announced their verdict in the case. The release of the Navy personnel accused of espionage marks a big diplomatic win for India. It also shows the strengthening of bilateral relations between India and Qatar.

On Oct 30, 2023, External Affairs Minister met with the family members of 8 Indians detained in Qatar.
