Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 17 held a thunderous roadshow in Gujarat’s Surat. A large number of people gathered to get glimpses of PM Modi. PM Modi in Gujarat earlier inaugurated the new Integrated Terminal Building of Surat Airport in Surat. He also inaugurated the Surat Diamond Bourse, the world’s largest and modern centre for international diamond and jewellery business. Encompassing 4,500 offices for national and international traders, the bourse aims to promote Surat’s thriving diamond industry. Built at a cost of about Rs 3000 crore, Surat Diamond Bourse can accommodate 65,000 diamond professionals. The bourse is now attracting bigwigs of the diamond industry from across the country.

Modi in Gujarat: PM Modi inaugurates Surat Diamond Bourse

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 17 inaugurated Surat Diamond Bourse. Notably, it will be the world’s largest and modern centre for international diamond and jewellery business. The Surat Diamond Bourse will be a global centre for trading both rough and polished diamonds as well as jewellery. The bourse will comprise a state-of-the-art ‘Customs Clearance House’ for Import –Export. Other than that, it will have a jewellery mall for retail jewellery business and a facility for International Banking. The bourse is larger than Pentagon, which has been the largest office in the world. Encompassing 4,500 offices for national and international traders, the bourse aims to promote Surat’s thriving diamond industry. The bourse has been built at a cost of Rs 3,000 crore and it can accommodate 65,000 diamond professionals.

In a relief to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, the Supreme Court in an interim order on August 04 stayed his conviction in the criminal defamation case over the ‘Modi surname’ remark. The Gujarat HC had in its order declined to stay his conviction in the criminal defamation case in which Rahul Gandhi was sentenced to two years in jail by the Surat court over the 'Modi surname' remark. After his conviction in the case, Gandhi was disqualified as MP from Kerala’s Wayanad on March 24. Earlier in March, a magisterial court convicted Rahul Gandhi for his ‘Modi’ surname remark ahead of the 2019 general polls.Various Congress leaders invited the Supreme Court’s decision and said that the conspiracy against him had failed and that his victory will come heavily on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

International Yoga Day 2023: Surat: Over 1L people participate in yoga event

A yoga event in Gujarat’s Surat has set a new Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of people for the yoga session. Over one lakh people took part in the Yoga event in Surat. The celebration witnessed the presence of Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, who joined the state-level International Day of Yoga commemoration. Meanwhile, several union ministers participated in yoga sessions along with the locals in their respective cities. Rahul defamation case: Surat court dismisses plea for stay on conviction

The Surat sessions court on Thursday rejected Rahul Gandhi's appeal seeking a stay and suspension of the lower court order which convicted him in the 2019 defamation case and sentenced him to two years in jail. The sessions court heard both sides on April 13 and reserved the verdict for April 20. Rahul Gandhi cannot be reinstated as a Member of Parliament for now. Rahul Gandhi had requested that his conviction be paused pending his appeal against a court order sentencing him to two years in jail.
