Holi 2024: Mathura's Lathmar Holi impresses foreign tourists

Keeping traditional fervour and essence of festival alive, people in large numbers participated in Lathmar Holi in Mathura on March 19. Foreign visitors also participated in the celebration and were highly impressed by Indian Culture. Mathura holds a long history and significance of the festival of Holi. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Krishna visited his beloved Radha's town Barsana from Nandgaon in Mathura to celebrate the festival with her. Women run after men with 'lathis' or sticks and playfully hit them during this celebration. The men, on the other hand, come prepared with a 'dhal' or shield.

Maldives President pleads China to send more tourists amid India-Maldives row

As India-Maldives diplomatic tensions brewing, President Muizzu has made a ‘desperate’ attempt to boost tourism. Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu requested China to intensify efforts to send more tourists. This appeal comes in the wake of a diplomatic spat with India after Maldivian MPs’ derogatory remarks. During his 5-day visit, President Muizzu described China as the “closest” ally of Maldives. Muizzu also lauded China’s Belt & Road initiative projects which were initiated by President Jinping in 2014. Maldivian media reported that the two countries signed a $50 million project aimed at developing integrated tourism zone. As per Maldives Tourism Ministry, India remained the largest tourist market for the country in 2023. However, after the India-Maldives row, #boycottmaldives started trending on social media. Showing solidarity with India, travel company EaseMyTrip also cancelled flight bookings to Maldives from Jan 08.

Cyclone Biparjoy to intensify in next 36 hours, Tithal beach closed for tourists

High waves are seen at Valsad’s Tithal Beach on the Arabian Sea coast of Valsad ahead of Cyclone Biparjoy. According to IMD, the cyclone is likely to intensify more in the next 36 hours. Tithal Beach was closed till June 14 for tourists as a precautionary measure.  “We told the fishermen not to venture into the sea and they all have come back. People will be shifted to the village at the seashore if needed. Shelters have been made for them. We have closed Tithal Beach for tourists till June 14,” Tehsildar TC Patel, Valsad.
