Speaking on the Jagdeep Dhankar mimicry incident, Trinamool Congress Lok Sabha MP Kalyan Banerjee on December 20 said that he never had any intention to hurt anyone. Addressing the media persons, he said, “I have never had any intention to hurt anyone. Does he really behave like this in Rajya Sabha? Mimicry was done by the PM in Lok Sabha between 2014-2019.” On December 19, TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee was seen mimicking VP Jagdeep Dhankhar in the Parliament premises. He drew laughter from other Opposition MPs and senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was filming him. Jagdeep Dhankhar on December 20 slammed the Congress party for the act.

After the political furore over Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar’s mimicry by TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi accepted that he shot the video. “MPs were sitting there, I shot their video. My video is on my phone. Media is showing it...Nobody has said anything...150 of our MPs have been thrown out (of the House) but there is no discussion on that in the media. There is no discussion on Adani, no discussion on Rafale, no discussion on unemployment. Our MPs are disheartened and sitting outside. But you are discussing that (mimicry),” said Rahul Gandhi while talking to media persons on December 20 on the Jagdeep Dhankar Mimicry Incident. Jagdeep Dhankar Mimicry Incident: PM Modi calls VP Dhankhar over mimicry act

PM Modi called Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and expressed concern over the recent mimicry filming incident. On December 19, a TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee was seen mimicking VP Jagdeep Dhankhar in the Parliament premises. He drew laughter from other Opposition MPs and senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was filming him. Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar termed the incident “shameful” and “ridiculous”. VP Dhankhar took to X and shared that PM Modi called him and expressed his concern over Jagdeep Dhankar mimicry incident. The Opposition MPs, who have been suspended, were protesting in the Parliament premises on Dec 19 when the incident happened. As of now, 141 MPs from both the Lower House and the Upper House have been suspended.

Demanding an apology from the INDIA bloc over the mimicry incident of Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi on December 19 said that the opposition members tried to belittle the image of Vice President adding that they are against the tribal and farming communities of the nation. While expressing concerns in Rajya Sabha over the Jagdeep Dhankar Mimicry Incident, Pralhad Joshi said, "Leader of Congress, a former Congress President who could not manage his own party affairs was trying to encourage this unfortunate act. This incident has circulated on social media and people are condemning it." Pralhad Joshi further said that Congress also deliberately insulted President Droupadi Murmu earlier. "From the beginning, Congress has deliberately been insulting our President, who comes from the tribal community and from day one their party leader in other house have insulted her. This puts a question on their mental state," he said.

Today, I feel if Rajchandra ji was alive today, he would have praised me for passing the bill of providing 1/3rd majority to women in Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha on 21st September. If Mahatma Gandhi was alive today, he would have praised PM Modi for taking forward the ‘Swachhta Abhiyan’,” said Jagdeep Dhankhar.
