Cyclone Remal To Hit West Bengal, Red Alert Issued In Coastal Regions
26 May,2024 05:53 PM A severe cyclone is expected to make landfall in parts of West Bengal and Bangladesh on May 26. The India Meteorological Department issued a warning against the Cyclone named ‘Remal’. The cyclone is expected to be accompanied by extremely heavy rainfall and strong winds in West Bengal. The cyclone’s formation was initiated by a low-pressure system over the southwest and west-central Bay of Bengal, which intensified into Cyclone ‘Remal’. IMD forecasts suggest that the cyclone will continue to gain strength, posing threats of heavy rainfall, strong winds, and storm surges along its path. The administration is fully prepared and NDRF teams have been deployed in the vulnerable area. Authorities have urged residents in these areas, to brace for adverse weather conditions starting from May 26. Meanwhile, Kolkata Airport Authority on May 25, announced the suspension of flight operations for next 21 hours. IMD said that the current warning for Cyclone Remal is in effect until May 28, but it may be extended if the situation requires.
