Women workers of the Additional Labour Commissioner in Pune went on a flash strike on Tuesday due to the lack of proper toilet facilities at the office. Ironically, the office is in-charge of ensuring that work places in the city have proper infrastructural facilities and abide by the labour law.

In addition to the strike, the women have also issued a memorandum  to Anil Lakaswar, the Additional Labour Commissioner. The office draws in a large number of visitors and is located on the old Mumbai-Pune Expressway.

A report in the India Expressa woman employee of the Additional Labour Commissioner's office was quoted as having commented on the dilapidated women's bathroom that exists in the office and stated, "During monsoon, the roof leaks and it is practically unusable."

The employees further add that the bathroom did not have a latch and was not hygeineic. The IE report also quotes Activist Kiran Moghe, who had repeatedly raised the issue, as having stated, "Woman visitors to the office have complained about the lack of a clean bathroom and we have also complained repeatedly, but nothing has changed." More than 20 women are currently employed at the office.
