The accident occured at a construction site in Malad
There labourers had a narrow escape while working at a construction site on Malad Link Road when a tower crane malfunctioned and fell from a height on Saturday.
Chandankumar Sharma (18), Abdul Kadir (19), and Kalam Mandal, (22), suffered minor injuries and were rushed to the nearby Surana Hospital And Research Centre by their co-workers.
Cops from the Malad Police Station is investigating the matter and confirmed that according to prima facie evidence the accident was the result of a technical glitch and no human error was involved.
The incident took place at around 11.45 am when Sharma, the signalman, along with Kadir and Mandal, was working at the under construction site of Aurise Serenity Heights. Suddenly the base jack of the crane developed some technical fault due to which the crane came crashing down.
“The crane works on hydraulic pressure and due to the mechanical error, it lost grip and fell. As we were working nearby, we got injured by the impact,” said Sharma, who has sustained injuries on his thighs. His co-worker Kadir has suffered a hip injury and has bruised his arm, while Mandal has escaped with minor injuries to his legs.
“The patients have suffered more from mental trauma than physical injuries. They had a narrow escape. This could have been a fatal accident. All the three have been given the required treatment and will be released by evening,” said Dr Arif Shaikh from Surana Hospital.
Meanwhile, cops are investigating the matter and trying to ascertain the exact cause of the incident.
